Voyager Media, publishers of The Bugle Newspapers, has added the award-winning weekly Enterprise to its newspaper family.

“It made so much sense for us to own The Enterprise for its strength in Plainfield and Shorewood,” said Richard Masterson CEO of Voyager Media. “Newspapers are under siege. By combining the two companies, there is an economy of scale.”

The Enterprise has served the Plainfield area for 122 years.

Masterson said the goal of his company is clear: to publish better newspapers.

With more than three decades of experience in the newspaper industry under his belt, Masterson is enthusiastic about Voyager Media becoming the leading publisher in Will County.

“The addition of The Enterprise group will strengthen our news coverage in Will County and allow us to expand our local coverage across all of our newspapers,” Masterson said.

“We’re pleased to welcome The Enterprise group to the Voyager family.”

Voyager purchased The Bugle Newspaper from the founding Besser family in 2003.

Since then, the company has expanded the publication from Niles, adding newspapers covering Romeoville in 2006, Bolingbrook in 2007, Joliet and Woodridge in 2008 and Downers Grove in 2009.

The addition of The Enterprise increases the company’s coverage area to include Plainfield and Shorewood.

“We have a winning strategy for our local newspapers, embedding ourselves in the towns we cover — one community, one newspaper,” said Andrew Schneider, Voyager’s vice president of editorial and editor-in-chief of The Bugle Newspapers.

“Bugle and Enterprise readers can look forward to a continued commitment to local news,” Schneider said. “Members of the community can expect more from their newspapers, not less. Every change we are making is for them.”

Bucking industry trends, Bugle Newspapers expanded their market share and increased revenue in recent years.

In addition to The Bugle, Voyager also publishes Screen Magazine, a trade publication covering the film and production industry nationwide.
